Hello! I'm Sophia Buxton, a seasoned strategy and operations leader with over 15 years of experience. Throughout my career, I have successfully delivered strategic solutions to complex problems in private, non-profit, and government organizations. I believe that professional success is unique to each individual, and I am passionate about helping solopreneurs navigate their businesses, practices, and trajectories. That's why I founded Yemayá Consulting, a bespoke firm that brings together my expertise and passion.
I am a proud HBCU graduate of Hampton University, as well as the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Outside of my professional endeavors, I find rejuvenation in exploring the natural wonders of the United States national parks, indulging in the dance of Brazilian samba no pé, honing my Portuguese language skills, and crafting plans for my next exciting travel adventure—all from the comfort of my cherished Brooklyn apartment.

Yemayá (Yee-mah-yah) is a revered deity, or Orisha, worshipped in various African diaspora religions such as Yoruba, Lucumí, Santería, Candomblé, and Umbanda. She is known as the universal mother, the mother of all living things, and the owner of all waters.
As an Afro-Latina, my professional and personal journey has been reminiscent of a seafaring expedition, with its share of turbulence and divine protection. Along the way, I've learned valuable lessons, gained redirection, and developed essential skills. I take pride in honoring my ancestry and culture, which is why I chose the name Yemayá Consulting.
